Northwest Georgia Credit Union and Georgia Dream Program Help Disabled Mom Buy A Home

ROME, GA, March 3, 2008—Pam Johnson, a single disabled mother of one, had a need for a new home, and with the help of Northwest Georgia Credit Union and the Georgia Dream First-Time Homebuyer Program she was able to purchase her first house.

Northwest Georgia Credit Union teamed up with the CDC Federal Credit Union in Atlanta to create a way for Georgia residents to get some extra help buying their first home. The Georgia Dream Program provides increased down-payment assistance and closing-cost assistance to eligible first-time buyers who may also qualify for a low interest rate and zero-interest mortgage.

Johnson found a home in her price range and was able to get a subsidized 30-year fixed loan with a combination of $15,000 in zero-interest assistance, and now her dream of being a homeowner is a reality.

Northwest Georgia Credit Union is only the second credit union in the state to offer the Georgia Dream First-Time Homebuyer Program and we are one of the only providers of this program in northwest Georgia. NWGACU was founded in 1961 to serve local educators and is a not-for-profit financial institution owned by its members. NWGACU has since expanded and membership is offered as an employee benefit for about 100 organizations in Rome and Floyd County.
