Northwest Georgia Credit Union announced today that Cheryl L. Huffman, President and Chief Executive Officer, is retiring. After 25 years of service to Northwest Georgia Credit Union, Huffman will enter her retirement at Berry College in a newly created position, Customer Service Manager in the Enrollment Management division of the college.
Huffman began her career in the credit union industry at Macomb Schools and Government Credit Union is Fraser, Michigan, where she became Branch Manager. After moving to Georgia in 1983, she was hired by Northwest Georgia Credit Union as a teller. She was later promoted to Collections Manager. In 1985, Huffman was named President of Northwest Georgia Credit Union. She has served in this role for 22 years and is a Certified Chief Executive.
“Since my first day, I have worked with some wonderfully creative, intelligent, humorous people who care passionately about our credit union members,” says Huffman. “It has been my privilege to work with them and for the members of Northwest Georgia Credit Union. As I pursue a new opportunity with Berry College, I will remain the greatest supporter of the credit union, the staff, and their mission.”
Northwest Georgia Credit Union Chairman Dr. Robert Young describes this transition as “an exciting career move that is a personal loss for Northwest Georgia Credit Union and a gain for Berry College. Under the leadership of Ms. Huffman, the credit union has grown financially into a solid $50 million institution with multiple ATMs, a host of member services and products, and a branch office.”
Huffman currently serves in a variety of capacities in the Rome community: member of the Rome City Schools Board of Education, Director for the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, Past President and charter member of the Rome Seven Hills Rotary Club, member of the Berry College Campbell School of Business Executive Advisory Council, and member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Huffman resides in Rome with her two children, Sarah and Will. Hear from the Board of Directors
