The scores are in and the Scholarship winners have been decided! Joel Grindstaff of Rome High School was chosen as the recipient of the Tom Nunn Memorial Scholarship and Alyssa Nobles was chosen as the recipient of the Progressive Leader Scholarship. Joel is the son of Mark and Lynn Grindstaff. Joel has been involved in service projects with Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, Silver Creek United Methodist Church as well as the National Honor Society. He has also volunteered his time at the Peach State Marching Band Festival and for an MS walk. He is a member of the Rome High School Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, the Rome High Math Team and the Academic Bowl Team. Joel plans to put his scholarship towards his education at Georgia Tech where he plans to study engineering. The Tom Nunn Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Mr. Tom Nunn, a late Director of Northwest Georgia Credit Union. This scholarship honors a commitment to excellence in academics, service, and community involvement.
Alyssa Nobles, the recipient of the Progressive Leadership Scholarship, is the daughter of Randall and Kathryn Nobles. Alyssa also attends Rome High School and plans to attend Berry College in the fall to study Early Childhood Education. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has served the community in Relay for Life, Coats for the Community, and Cheerful Givers. Her cause has become the people of Piedras Negras, Mexico, where she serves during the summers. She has served in this capacity for four summers and will continue this summer as an intern. This is the second recipient of The Northwest Georgia Credit Union Progressive Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship commemorates a student with leadership skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for a cause of their own with the skills to make it happen.
